The training of teachers to teach statistics in primary education should be oriented to enable them to develop the students’ statistical literacy since the first educational levels. One fundamental foundations of “statistical literacy” is the interpretation of statistical graphs, that any citizen must be able to realize in order to fully developing in the current information society. This paper describes the construction of a questionnaire to evaluate the knowledge about critical interpretation of media information I based on the use of elementary statistical graphs. The questionnaire is applied to a sample of 45 future teachers revealing important deficiencies in this competency. We conclude with the need to review te training programs to improve the statistical literacy of future teachers.
