Résumé

In this work is presented the case of a landslide affecting Marina del Este resort, located in the southern Mediterranean coast of Spain (Costa del Sol). We analyze the landslide kinematic and characteristics using different tools and methodologies: geomorphological analysis, ENVISAT SAR images interpretation, an assessment of buildings and infrastructures damages, rainfall time-series analysis and inclinometers (2010-2011) data interpretation. Results show that, since 2003 to 2009, the landslide was active with velocities ranging from 5 to 15 mm/yr. Further during the exceptional rainy period in winter 2009-2010, an acceleration of movement (up to 80 - 90 mm/yr) caused widespread damages to the buildings. The landslide affects this urbanization since its construction in the 70's and its noticeable that the mitigation works carried out during the years was not sufficient to stop the movement. Marina del Este resort can be considered as an interesting example of pathologies associated with urban development on coastal unstable slopes.
