Abstract

The present Ph.D. thesis addresses the study of singer songwriter Rosalia and her formative-creative context. Her interdisciplinary training and the diverse artists that have mediated in her outcome as an artist have fomented, in one way or another, the creation of a certainly peculiar musical identity. Rosalia has generated her own space in the music industry nurturing herself from this cultural net of people that have gradually enriched her artistic vision. Hence, in this investigation, a detailed analysis of her surroundings and of the key agents that have generated it through time has been conducted. For that end, the field work from an ethnomusicological perspective has been essential: attendance to concerts and conducting interviews to the individuals involved have been key factors to value the impact of the artist trajectory. In addition, the attempt to approach the musical analysis of her songs has been done with the aim to thresh her vocal technique and describe her most emblematic melodic and harmonic resources.
