Abstract

The WHO and UNAIDS have made it a priority to establish policies for the prevention and care of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). This study aims to identify variables associated with these infections, as well as to detail how they have evolved over a broad period of time (2000- 2018), with special attention to the periods defined by the economic crisis. An observational Data collection was carried out on the medical records of users of a centre specialising in the care of this type of infection, in the province of Granada (Spain). The variables significantly associated with STIs were the time periods analysed around the crisis, sexual orientation, occupation and age at first sexual intercourse. The evolution of the number of diagnoses during the study period showed a trend of progressive increase of these infections.
