Abstract

This paper reviews the work of Professor Arjona Sánchez "El euro, entre la nostalgia postmoderna al oro y un supra-federalismo europeo. A constitutional debate", in which he analyses the common European currency (the euro) from the gold standard to the present day. The book provides a detailed review of the functioning and aims of capital movements, the role of reserve currencies, the gold standard, the dollar-gold standard, the international monetary order, the Marshall Plan, the "Nixon shock", the European monetary system, the rules of the euro, the role of the European Central Bank and national banks, the role of the euro in the 2008 financial crisis, and ends with a series of recommendations which, in the author's opinion, will be decisive in ensuring the viability of this currency.
