Abstract

Cellular respiration is a complex trait that provides vitality to all organisms, and that is tightly linked to metabolism and oxidative stress. Plants possess an alternative respiration that decreases the energetic efficiency of respiration but confers metabolic flexibility allowing plants to respond under unfavourable situations. This brings new perspectives into the study of this vital process for the benefit of plant productivity under climate change.
