Résumé

The main objective of this research was to analyze the use of timeouts (TO) in male U-19 category volleyball teams. 171 timeouts, re-quested by the coaches of the 21 male teams participating in the U-19 Spanish Championship, were ana-lyzed. The variables considered in this study were: the set result, varia-bles related to the use of the TO (score difference and lost rallies) and variables related to performance after the TO (efficacy of the game action more failed and efficacy of the last failed game action). The variables associated with the set result were: score difference (x2=12.022; Cramer’s V =.265; p<0.01), efficacy of the more failed game action (x2=10.541; ; Cramer’s V =.299; p<0.05) and efficacy of the last failed game action (x2=4.285; ; Cramer’s V =.207; p<0.03). Specifi-cally, contributed positively to the association: TO requirement with a score difference of 2-3 points, it im-proves the efficacy of the more failed game action and it improves the last failed game action, with the set win-ners. These results show that the winner teams require TO with minor differences in the score. After it, their often improve the performance of the last failed game action, and the also the performance of their more failed game action in the previous rally to the TO. These results can be considered by coaches in the team management process in competition.
