Resumen
Waste management is a critical problem for developing countries. In Togo, there are uncontrolled dumps scattered throughout the country, and what is even more serious, within the University Campus of the capital. Indicators of circular economy showed that 59.5% of waste generated at the Campus can be introduced in the circular economy paradigm through composting, and 27.0% of the energy consumed in the Campus can be replaced by clean energy obtained from biogas. Plastic fraction can be all introduced in the circular economy paradigm through reuse of plastic bottles and sale of the rest in the port of the city. Regarding old tyres, 1.5% of the rubber necessary to pave the entire roadway of the Campus can be replaced by the waste that will be generated by the tyres currently existing at the Campus. Consequently, waste management at the University Campus of Lome can be controlled through the implementation of these indicators.
