Abstract
Objetive: To study the prevalence and location of oral candidosis in patients with AIDS. Methods: Oral examination were petformed on 126 patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus ( H IV) and with CD4 + leve[ lower that 200/nun3 . The risk groups were: intravenous drug users (79,3%), homosexual-bisexuals ( 14,3%), heterosexuals (7,9%), transfusion-hemophiliacs (1 ,6%). Results: At the time of examination 54,8% of patients had oral candidosis: 38,1 % pseudomembranous type, 10,3% eritematous, 6,3% hyperplastic, 36,5% angular cheilitis, 8, 7% median rhomboid glossitis, and 1,5% denture stomatitis. The most frequent locations were the tangue and bucea/ mucosa. Conclusion: The prevalence and location of oral candidosis in our patients show differe nces with the lesions refered for other studies in HJV( +) patients and in immunocompetents. Exist different oral locations by the different types of candidosis.
