Abstract
The evolution of the geometry of freshwater-seawater interface in the coastal detrital aquifer of Andarax river delta (Almeria) has been studied. There, 19 boreholes for abstracting seawater below the interface are supplying a desalination plant. Before starting the pumping, the interface showed a typical geometry for these conditions, although once the pumping started the geometry changed remarkably provoking a generalized refreshing upstream of these boreholes. These results confirm the validity of the seawater abstractions in coastal aquifers as barriers to avoid marine intrusion.
