Abstract

Positive Psychology, understood as the scientific study of optimal human functioning, has developed theories and assessment tools on the so-called positive psychological resources (strengths and virtues), whose contributions have important implications for educational practice. There are very few and scattered publications in the field of professional development that have been taken into account the nature of the effectiveness of human functioning. For teachers to play their roles successfully, they need many different skills, not only pedagogical but also of a personal nature. In this paper we explicitly relate the two areas, so that it includes the study of teacher personality variables as a factor of major effect on their professional practice. It also made proposals for implementing the principles generated within the field of positive psychology to teachers’ professional practice.
