Resumen
Geochemical characteristics of thermal waters from San Climent de Sescebes and Cantallops springs (Gerona) are similar to other geothermal systems in the Pyrenees. They belong to the group of graniterelated alkaline thermal waters (high pH, low total dissolved solids, very low magnesium concentration, and sodium as the dominant cation). Due to the high pH value (9.6-9.7), dissolved silica is partially found as the H3SÍ04- species. Moreover C02 partial pressure is very low. Geothermometrical modelling shows that kaolinite reequilibrium during ascent is required to obtain coherent results, as it occurs in other thermal alkaline systems. This modelling also shows that thermal waters are in equilibrium at depth with albite, K-feldspar, quartz and kaolinite at temperatures of 78 ± 6 -C (San Climent) and 105 ± /0 -C (Cantallops). In these conditions, pH values are lower than at surface, especially in Cantallops. During ascent pH increases at an average rate of 0.0125 pH units / oC, in agreement with rates found in similar alkaline geothermal systems.
