Abstract

This article presents a comparative analysis and evolution of the political metaphor of the body in Spanish literature from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. Classical and early medieval sources containing significant examples of that metaphor are presented here. The period chosen, although long and heterogeneous, on the one hand, allows to observe the permanence of that phenomenon in Spanish political thought, and secondly, provides explanations for the gradual secularization of that phenomenon, whose presence in medieval European literature refers to Church representations of the mystical body.
