Resumen
The objective of many professional football clubs is to train players with a view to them then playing in the first team or being sold to bring money to sing other players. Whichever of these two case apply, the training of players is the prime objective of football academies. This qualitative research study details the key factors in the success of 11 Spanish players who have played for the national football team and also describes the work carried out in the seven football academies form which the players came. The eleven players were interviewed as were the team specialists (coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, psychologist, and team physician) of the seven selected teams. It uses interviews as an instrument of measurement, with data being analyzed using the MAXQDA2007 program, and ascertains that the social context, the sport context and the individual psychological are the key dimensions in the training of elite players.
