Resumo

The purpose of the present study was to examine potential differences in self-determined motivation toward sport between federated and non-federated adolescents. A sample of 321 high school students (aged 12-16 years) completed the Spanish version of the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-II). The results of the Mann-Whitney U test showed that federated adolescents had a higher autonomous regulation than their non-federated counterparts (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant differences on controlled regulation and non-regulation were found (p > 0.05). Federated young people in some sport have higher autonomous regulation toward sport than those who are not.
