Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge on flexibility and practical application among students of the Physical Education teaching at the University of Malaga. 217 students attended college volunteers (n = 157 men, women n = 60) of the three grades (age 21.05 ± 3.36 years; federated n = 72, non-federated n = 145; first grade n = 55, second grade n = 91, third grade n = 71). Participants completed a questionnaire comprising 14 items in which questions about the practice of physical activity in general and the practice of stretching in particular, and the knowledge they had about their techniques. 32.4% of respondents did not know any stretching technique. 63.8% only know from one to three stretching techniques. Only 3.9% referred more than three stretching techniques. A higher percentage of federated students knew 4 or more stretching techniques with regard to those who were not federated (8.3% vs. 0.14%). Knowledge of flexibility techniques and their practical application is low among the students of the Physical Education teaching.
