Abstract

Although the level of concern about the environment has never been so high indeveloped countries, this fact does not translate into responsible environmental behaviours. Infront of this challenge, Environmental Education (EE) shows itself as a highly neededinstrument to educate citizens that apply sustainable criteria to their behaviours. But, beforedesigning any educational strategy to overcome the gap between the theoretical discourse inEE and its daily practice, we must review the reference models that give coherence to the tightrelationships-not enough clarified-between environmental conceptual knowledge, attitudesand behaviours. According to this, we present an educational proposal for EE that saving thedistance between theory and practice, achieves the transformation of attitudes and knowledgeabout the environmental problems into sustainable behaviours
