This work stems from the need to improve teaching and learning processes in engineering careers at the Ecuadorian university, where Numerical Methods is an important subject given its preponderant role in solving problems inherent to the profession that cannot be solved by analytical methods. Therefore, the main objective is to explore important aspects of teachers of numerical methods, such as their conceptions and beliefs about the nature of the subject and its teaching and learning, and their knowledge of the content of Numerical Methods. To this end, this research report has been organized in two parts. In the first part we present the approach of this research, which we have divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 corresponds to theoretical references related to numerical methods and Chapter 2 to research on the professional knowledge of the mathematics teacher. Chapter 3 sets out the general and specific objectives of this research and the methodology used to achieve it. The second part, related to the results obtained and main conclusions, is divided into three chapters. Chapter 4 describes the results related to the description of the conceptions and beliefs of the twelve professors participating in the research on numerical methods, their teaching and learning and the role of technology, as well as the coherence between these beliefs and their teaching practice. Chapter 5 shows results referring to teachers' knowledge about key concepts of numerical integration and the analysis of the Knowledge of Topics of numerical integration manifested in their classes by one of the professors participating in this study. Finally, the last chapter of this report shows the main conclusions drawn based on the objectives set, the limitations of our research, and the lines open to future research.
