Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate possible differences in self-determined motivation toward sport according to gender in schoolchildren. The sample consisted of 321 students (217 boys and 104 girls) of secondary school (aged 12-16 years). The Spanish version of the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-II) was used for the evaluation of self-determined motivation toward sport. No statistically significant differences in self-determined motivation toward sport (autonomous regulation, controlled regulation and non-regulation) were found (p > 0.05). No significant differences were demonstrated regarding the selfdetermined motivation toward sport among boys and girls adolescents.
