Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the opinions of athletes participating in adventure raid competitions on environmental issues, and to determine the influence of the respect for the environment according to place of sports in nature in their free time. The sample consisted of 272 participants in competitions of the Spanish League Adventure Race. For data collection, a questionnaire validated for that purpose was used. Descriptive, inferential and variance analyses were carried out. As main results, it is noted that these subjects respect the environment, increasing this respect when increasing age. Furthermore, a relationship was shown between this respectful attitude and the importance given by the participants to the practice of nature sports in their spare time. Finally, it was found that the environmental protection measures taken since these competitions have been organized are good and relate to the quality in the organization of the event. The data are discussed in the paper.
