Abstract

School children between 7 and 10 years of age in Tolú, Colombia, were characterized and compared with results from other national and international populations, endurance, strength and Body Mass Index (BMI). The population was 667 subjects, representing 56% of the school population of the municipality in that age range. The instruments used minimize any risk during the evaluation and were endorsed by experts through the statistical procedure called Aiken's V. This population, at this sensitive moment of development, presents deficiencies in strength and endurance, a significant delay with respect to international populations for height and weight. As a result, the percentiles are also annexed for future monitoring, in case political-administrative decisions are taken and it is decided to intervene or control the population evaluated periodically.
