Resum

Coordination compounds are defined as entities formed by the union by coordination bonds between a organic or inorganic ligand with a central atom, generally a metal ion. The main advantage of this type of compounds is the wide range of possible structures and properties, since the variety of ligands and their combination with different metals is infinite. Given the importance of metal ions in many biological processes in the organism, it is reasonable to think that coordination compounds may have an important role in the field of medicine. This idea became a reality with the appearance of cisplatin, a coordination compound based on platinum and inorganic ligands, which es currently one of the most widely used drug in chemotherapy against certain types of cancer. The great variety of properties and structures that these materials can present increase their applications, which are as varied as drug delivery, diagnostic imaging or new drugs development with a wide range of modes of action and different biological targets. In summary, during this Thesis a total of 26 new coordination compounds have been synthesized from seven different organic ligands. The response of the compounds to different diseases of worldwide concern such as leishmaniasis, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease was studied, and all the studies are shown in Table 1 and 2.
