Resumen

This doctoral thesis entitled: "The impact of mobile mediated communication on adolescents¿ social relations" is the result of the interest shown in recent years by the high penetration of technologies, especially among teenagers. Both the academic and professional field have initiated research projects seeking to know the relationship between children and the increasing use of digital screens. It has been opened a debate on the opportunities and risks of a generation that must acquire new skills to participate in public life, as students, citizens, consumers and workers, with an important digital dimension. The goal of this thesis was to determine how mobile mediated communication could favor the development of relationships and true friendships among adolescents, while allowing them to continue working in other environments that are also important. Despite the negative opinions that have emerged in recent years about the use of mobile phones by young people, after conducting this research, a positive consideration of the use of this device is proposed. The progress that allows its use for new forms of communication and interpersonal interaction can result in benefits for social relations, as long as they learn to use them in an appropriate manner, integrating them into their daily activities. Key Words: mobile phone, computer-mediated-communication, adolescents, social relations, opportunities
