Abstract

The scientific literature suggests that psychological wellbeing and self-concept are related to the professional work of teachers. This paper analyzes the psychological wellbeing and self-concept in university students who are training to be teachers. For it, 100 students from the Faculty of Education and Humanities of Melilla (University of Granada) took part in the study, 19 men and 81 women, of the Degrees in Early Childhood Education, n = 63, and Primary Education, n = 37. The minimum age was 18 and maximum of 40, with a mean age of 22.14 years, SD = 4.67. Psychological Well-Being Scale (EBP for its acronym in Spanish), namely the Scale of Subjective psychological well-being, and the test of Self-concept Form 5 (AF5 in Spanish) were used as data collection instruments. Results show, firstly, that the percentiles obtained in the subscale of the EBP test are close to the 60th percentile. Furthermore, within the AF5, Physical self-concept, Academic-labor self-concept and Family self-concept are around 65th percentile. Is it noted that the Emotional self-concept is below the 50th percentile. Secondly, EBP subscale correlated positively with all scales of AF5, being the highest correlations with the Social self-concept and Physical self-concept. The implications of these results are discussed in the paper.
