Abstract

Common Agricultural Policy constitutes one of the major policies in the European Union. However its system of aids has often been criticized, mainly due to the huge amount of EU budget it consumes. Additionally, several researchers and organizations linked to Social Economy have claimed for a need in reforming the current system of aids in order to foster a higher coverage of small- and mediumsized properties as opposite to big-sized ones. Henceforth, this paper proposes an alternative method of distribution for CAP aids based on the concept of degressive proportionality. The method presented implicitly relies on the concept of sustainability across time, since optimizing the distribution of aids ensures acceptable aids for small- and medium-sized farmers.
