Resumen

Our study focuses on public libraries which constitute an essential component of teaching and research andhas as objective the analysis of the level of knowledge of documentation professionals about copyright lawand its degree of awareness of this issue.It was based on an online surveythat was sent to all public libraries of Mainland Portugal and theautonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira. Took contact with the reality of their own libraries on thesubject of copyright and we have identified the problems in this area.Documentation professionals in Portugal reveal, with some exceptions, few knowledge on the issue ofcopyright and the legislation that regulates. This lack of knowledge about copyright manifests itself in anegative way the development of their professional activity and implies an inadequate reconciliation of theinterests of the parties involved, on the one hand the right-holders and users.
