Abstract

In this paper first results of a research on the activity of some large landslide affecting the Guadalfeo river basin using differential interferometry of RADAR images (DIinSAR) are presented. These landslides were considered apparently inactive during its inventory and mapping which was recorded in a GIS application. The obtained vertical velocity values correspond to low to very low landslide activity, although using conventional field methods there was no indication of active movement. The measured landslides affect, respectively, the regional road of the Alpujarra at the eastern side of Lanjaron and the Guadalfeo river channel in an area close to Tablones (Órgiva). The application of remote sensing technique as the differential interferometry of RADAR images lead to a detailed and sensible assessment of vertical velocities for the period of available RADAR images (1993 to 2000) avoiding much more expensive and time consuming methods of “in situ” instrumentation. The method of DInSAR is here presented with the obtained results and its discussion.
