Abstract

The phylogenetic relationships between the 17 species of the genus Agrostis L. (Poaceae) growing in the lberian Penninsula are discussed on the basis of geographic distribu-tion, cytogenetic features, morphology and anatomy. The genus can be subdivides into two clearly distinguishable subgenera, each possessing an exclusive set of characteristics reflecting two separate phyletic lines: Subgenus Agrostis, which includes three sections, Agrostis, Vilfa (Adanson) Roemer & Schultes and Aperopsis Ascherson & Graebner, and subgenus Zingrostis Romero García, Blanca & Morales Torres.
