Abstract

The centenary of the birth of Salvador Bacarisse (1898-1963) presenta the opportunity to examine the personality of the Madrilenian composer and analyse the reasons why the greater part of his musical output is today unknown. Praised 95 ore of the most famous representatives of the Spanish musical avantgarde during bis Madrilenian period, and awarded the National Music Prize on three occasions (1923, 1931, 1934), he held some of the most prestigiosa public positions related to music, especially during the Second Republic. Despite the success of bis musical worhs, which include more than 200 compositions covering all genres, during his lifetime, after bis death Bacarisse was quichly forgotten. The present article surrunarizes the main aspects of the composer's life and music, whose artistic career, as a result of the Civil War, was almost equally divided between Spain and France.
