Resumen

Fan deltas developed lying against the eastern margin of the Granada basin during the Upper Tortonian, as a consequence of an important uplifting pulse of Sierra Nevada related to the mid-tortonian compressive event which took place in the Betic Cordillera. These delta systems are made up of sequences in three different ranges. The minor range sequences (parasequences) are determined by the delta dynamics, by autogenic controls as it has been established after a detailed facies analysis from the feeder systems —alluvial fans- to the prodeltas. The stacking pattern of the major range delta sequences and the internal geometries of these very coarse-grained deltas are controlled by allogenic factors, mainly an active tectonics coeval with the development of the fan deltas.
