Abstract
This paper testes the hypothesis of sunk exporting costs differing among markets and how this hypothesis differs depending on firms productivity and size. The authors uses a sample of Spanish firms from Encuesta sobre Estrategias Empresariales (ESEE) for the period 1990-2002. The results confirmed the importance of those sunk costs and demonstrate that they differ depending on the market firms export to and on firms size. Moreover, the effect of firms productivity on the export decision depends on the export market and it is especially relevant for more advanced markets such as the EU.
