Resumo
Even though the final �i of the perfect indicative in �iit is supposed to be short in classical Latin, classical versification has an amount of examples with a long final syllable, which are of a certain extent in Ovid. some authorities consider it as a lengthening of the short final syllable, some, as an archaic survival. However it is possible that spoken language vacillated between one perfect in �iit and another in �iit, due to the influence of contracted forms in �it. Why this involves, above all, perfects of eo and its compounds is another question we are reviewing in this article.
