Abstract

In the 16th and 17th centuries the Nasrid Palaces of the Alhambra were subjeted to extensive restoration, consolidation and replacement of ornamental elements that included glass. In the palaces of Comares, the Lions, Mexuar and in the Bath-Houses hung engravings of the masters such as Juan del Campo, Arnao de Vergara and Juan Bautista painted with ornamental motifs characteristic of the Classical repertoire. In the Museum of the Alhambra some pieces of stained glass from the Renaissance and Baroque Periods in the Alhambra have been preserved. They show the continuity of the glass making process from the Medieval period. The most important advances include classical period declaratory ornaments and the widespread usage of gray tones in relief and yellow silver tones. We can also see the desire to conserve the nasrid influence, especially in the most symbolic sites of the royal chambers, such as the Palace of Comares where the windows can be found to include arabic writing.
