Abstract

Pharmaceutical care appears as a reply to a societal necessity based on obtaining the maximum benefit from therapy in patients, as a prerequisite for a high quality healthcare. Objectives: 1) To assess the efficacy of the Dader Method for patient pharmacotherapy follow-up. 2) To determine the capability to provide pharmacotherapy follow-up with current pharmacy structure. 3) to Determine difficulties encountered to provide this service. Method: Retrospective study from Nov-2001 to Nov-2003 in a community pharmacy in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cadiz-Spain). 50 patients under pharmacotherapy follow-up by the Dader Method were analyzed. Results: A total of 125 clinical interventions were made on patients. Most of intervened drug therapy problems (DTP) were type 5, 3, and 1 respectively. 20.8% of DTP were caused by noncompliance. 85.6% of interventions were accepted and 81.6% of health problems were resolved. Communication way more commonly used was written pharmacist-patient-physician. Conclusions: The Dader Method is efficacy to detect, prevent and resolve DTP, and to optimize pharmacotherapy in patients. It was possible to implements it in a community pharmacy with current structure. There exist some difficulties that diminished quality to pharmacotherapy follow-up.
