Abstract

The main aim of this research was to study the relationships between causal attributions, implicit conceptions about development, and the perceived efficacy of different strategies to eradicate poverty. One hundred and sixty five college students (University of Granada) voluntarily and anonymously answered one questionnaire including: (a) a scale that assesses causal attributions about poverty-- CTWPQ; (b) three different definitions of development, and (c) a scale containing three type of strategies to abolish poverty. As predicted, results showed that these variables were related to each other. These results also underscore the relevance of knowing peoples causal attributions and implicit beliefs about development, because they can determine the degree of acceptance or rejection of actions taken to fight against inequalities and poverty.
