Starting from the quotation by Cervantes in the prologue of Don Quixote, the essay follows the critical estimation of Cristóbal de Fonseca´s Tratado del amor de Dios and its displa cement from the sphere of the treatise- which implies the isolated meditation- to the sphere of communicability in preaching. Through successive editorial amplifi cations (1592 to 1622) which include indexes and other paratexts, the book dissolves its matter into a repertory of �preaching conceits� (�conceptos predicables�).
