Abstract

At the present time, globalisation has helped bridge the gap between citizens in many respects; nonetheless, it also seems to have driven a wedge between many people who now raise the issue of their identity in a country they can hardly recognise. We are not only speaking about the fact of being a foreigner in that context but especially of feeling so. The book by Ariel Kenig, a young man of over twenty years of age, shows this sense of frustration and rejection of the country which was his and still is, but where he does not feel like a loved and legitimate child. The literature of this young writer is, then, the starting point from which to discuss an important fact: have the appearance and qualities of France changed so much to question the flight to other places in the world? What is the cost of being French for those who question crumbling ideals between nostalgia and neglect?
