Abstract
Demirjian et al method used to establish the dental age has been higly extended in recent years. In this research, we apply the pattern based on calcilication stage of seven mandibular teeth in order to know the dental developing degree on Andalusian children as well as the reliability of the results got after being used to establish our patient's dental age. The sample consists of 452 children, 241 boys and 211 girls, with ages comprised between 3.91and14.41 years, who has been treated in the Odontology Faculty of Granada University. The dental developing degree has been the same until the age of 8.5 in our patients for both sexes, from this age and on we observe that girls overtake boys in calcitication degree. Although we have reproduced Demirjian et al stages faithfully the accuracy of the method has been inadequate and it has proved high dental age values on childrens's sample. The average of -0.87 :+- 0.98 between chronological dental age has been estimated and the interval of acceptance at 95 per cent for an individual appreciation ranges from -2.79 to 1.05 years respecting their chronological age. Therefore, if we want to calculate the dental age by means of Demirjian's method we need not only a previous process of standarization in the use of it but it's also advisable to have suitable rules for our population.
