Abstract

Dental agenesis is a common feature of diagnostic and prognostic value in malocclusion treatment. The aim of this study is to know the frequency presented by each antero-posterior malocclusion class among patients with hypodontia and to compare it to that presented among general malocclusion population. lt is also our intention to determine the influence of hypodontia clinical features on the distribution of malocclusion classes among the patients under the sample with agenesia. The sample consists of 120 individuals (84 male and 36 female) with ages comprised between 9 and 34 years, who presented hypodontia in their permanent dentition. ANB angle and facial convexity were used as criteria for classifying each patient malocclusion. Through ANB angle, skeletal class I has been observed to appear in the 49.2% of the cases, whereas class III appears in the 16.7%. Class II malocclusion is shown in the 34.2 % of patients under the sample. In the comparissons made with regard to the general malocclusion sample, class I and lll have been more frequent mong patients with agenesia, whereas class II has shown a greater prevalence in the general malocclusion sample. Significant correlations among a particular malocclusion and hypodontia clinical features have not been observed.
