Resum

Two years ago, the regional government of Andaluc’ia (Junta de Andaluc’a) issued an Andalusian Strategy for Geodiversity Conservation (Estrategia Andaluza para la Conservació—n de la Geodiversidad, Consejeri’a de Medio Ambiente, 2002). Subsequently, an inventory of cultural georesources was compiled (Inventario Andaluz de Georrecursos Culturales (Consejer’a de Medio Ambiente, 2003) as one of the first actions derived from the rationale of the Strategy. A total of 588 localities of geological interest are identified, described and evaluated in this inventory. The Strategy includes a method of evaluation of the inventory localities, according to a system of values and relative weights of a series of previously defined criteria. Each locality is evaluated from three different points of view: its scientific interest, its educational potential and its attraction as tourism destination. No attempt is made to obtain a single, aggregated value as the sum of the three kinds of possible interest. The aim is to follow a procedure of comparison of localities, as objective as possible, to obtain a priority classification of localities to be conserved and developed.
