Abstract

Populations of steppe birds are in sharp decrease in Europe. Dupont's Lark Chersophilus duponti is one of the most threatened steppe birds in Spain, especially in southern Spain. The population at El Padul (Granada), the largest in southern Spain, was studied over a period of three years. The population was estimated at 17-19 territories (densities of 0·10-0·11territories per 10 hectares). Population size appeared stable during the study period, with minor interannual changes in the number of territories. The conservation value of this population is discussed.
