Resumen

During Late Tortonian the stacking of thirteen coarsening-upward sequences (10 to 50 m thick) constituted a delta succesion (moreless 300 m thick) attached to the eastern margin of the Granada BVasin, one of the Neogene-Quatereanry basins of the central sector of the Betic Cordillera. The deltaic sequences consist of three litofacies intervals: sandy silt interval, sandy interval and conglomeratic interval. The facies and architectural analysis suggests important discharge changes of the feeder systems during the deltaic sequence deposition. Each sequence records an increase in the feeder system discharge. The deltas were fed by ephemeral rivers with periods of low discharge and deposition from suspension plumes (fine-grained intervals
