Abstract
This article shows the most important results of a research on the socio-demographic and economic dynamics in the Guadix Region of Spain. The authors stress the need to emphasize on more adequate and effective rural development policies for this declining rural region. This is because, even though actions and ideas aimed at achieving this development have already been devised for some time, the demographic losses are still significant, especially on the younger effective populations. However, due to its geographic location and the quality of its many sociocultural and natural resources, we are faced with a territory sustainable socially and environmentally where those resources also constitute potential socioeconomic development factors.
