Resumen

The growth hormone syndrome affects approximately series among 1/4000 and 1/10.000 new born babies. It is usually an idiopatic disorder, with short stature as its main clinical sign. At a craniofacial level, both the mandible and the maxilla are smaller. These patients present a delayed development and teeth of small size. The present stady is aimed at assessing whether dental age is delayed in children with growth hormone deficiency. The sample consisted of 52 children with isolated and idiopatic growth hormone deficiency who had not been previously treated with this hormone and 51 normal children. The dental age was estimated by orthopantograms following Haavikko's method. The results show that dental age is delayed in these patients as regards chronological age. However, both ages were similar for the group of normal children. Comparisions among both groups reflect statistically significant differences.
