Resumen
The representations and illustrations that are used to teach the topic of chemical bonding, besides being important means for learning Chemistry, they are also teaching aims because learning them implies understanding the languages that chemists use in their interpretations. This work aims at analysing these representations according to three criteria: a) their level of iconicity, by using the classification of Perales and Jiménez (2004); b) the language involved, by using the classification of Galagovsky (2004); and c) the atomic model needed for their comprehension (Matus y otros, 2008). The stratified sample was constituted by 18 textbooks used in the teaching of 12, 15 and 18 years old students of the Argentinian Educational System. 210 images were identified and analysed. The findings show that some general tendencies, which are the object of discussion, can be drawn in spite of the great diversity of results.
