Zusammenfassung

The aim of the study was to analyse the relationships between cognitive appraisal of parental conflicts (perception of threat, coping, self-blame, triangulation and stability) and the adjustment of university students from intact and divorced families. In the case of intact families, every cognitive appraisal was related to depression and anxiety traits. Self-esteem was related to a lower perception of threat and self-blame and a higher capacity to cope. Self-blame, triangulation and perception of threat were related to anxiety state. In women, every cognitive variable predicted both depression and anxiety traits; perception of threat, self-blame and triangulation were related to anxiety state, whereas self-esteem was related only to coping and not to the perception of threat. On the other hand, in male students, inter-parental conflict did not predict adjustment. In the case of divorced families, lack of coping abilities and stability of the conflict were related to every adjustment variable. Threat was related to both types of anxiety, and triangulation to anxiety state. Perception of threat and lack of coping abilities in the daughters of divorced families predicted their adjustment; stability was related to depression and to both types of anxiety, and triangulation to anxiety state.
