Resumo

The present study examines the oral pathology in human remains, in the late nasrid period, recovered during the archeological intervention realized in Talará (Lecrin´s valley, Granada) in 2002. The burials were located in a site know as Macáber, a Islamic cemetery dated between 13th and 15th centuries. The anthropological research determined the minimum number of individuals (MNI), sex, age and pathologies through the relevant anthropological study. The sample analyzed contains 70 individuals from both sexes and an age range, from adult to mature/old age. Dental pathology analysis was carried out considering the LukacsS (1989) technique, classifying dental disease according to their aetiology. We analyzed injuries related with infection, degenerative, processes of development and genetics which affect teeth and bone supports. Recorded dental caries, ante mortem tooth loss (AMTL), abscesses, periodontal disease, tartar, wear and enamel hypoplasia. In summary, the aim of our analysis is to study the main dental health problems of this nasrid population and the implications of these diseases could have on the quality of life of individuals.
