Abstract

In this study, we have been analysed several letters of dowry and arras belonging to old christians of the Baza territory (Granada). The data contained in them have allowed us to know how were the population customs of these territories of the kingdom of Granada; For example, how the marriages were made, the goods received by the married people from their parents, the goods given in arras by the fiance to the bride for the marriage contract. The goods donated by the parents are houses, lands, trees, dresses, house clothes, jewels and others household goods for the new home. Several customs of the time have been perfectly reflected in these documents. Furthermore, in these documents appears an interesting vocabulary that has its origins in the Latin and Arab cultures, and afterwards used by the Castilian people. Many of these words have been used, at least, since the Middle Age.
