Resumen

Nowadays it is known that children, increasingly earlier, have their first contact with information technologies and with the Internet, reaching the second stage of basic education, at the age of 10, with a highly advanced technological mastery. Therefore, it was established as objective to know the impact of the internet use in children between 10 and 12 years old, attending second stage of basic education schools in Sintra, bearing in mind the level of efficiency and digital literacy, and the control wielded by guardians in the use of this technology, and its applicability in pedagogical context. The sample consists of 192 students attending 5th and 6th grades, 129 guardians and a group of 6 teachers. Each group answered a questionnaire survey and it was carried out a discussion group of students and an interview with teachers. In this research it was used a mixed methodology, using an extensive collection of information on the problem, documents’ analysis, using quantitative (questionnaires) and qualitative (interviews) instruments, looking forward to cross and deepen information. This study contributes to a more specific knowledge about the main activities carried out by these children, on the Internet, as well as how their guardians monitor and control these activities and give us to know their main concerns and how their teachers deal with the computer and the Internet.
