Resumen
The NW-SE convergence between the European and African plates develops open folds In the southern mountain front o f the Betic Cordillera since upper Miocene to Present. Gravity, seismic profiles and boreholes data allow to interpret the fold geometry in the Campo de Dalias. An antiform with ENE-WSW trend is observed near Guardias Viejas locality. In the central part of Campo de Dalias develop a synform that determines a depocenter characterized by a sediment thickness of about 800 metres filled by Neogene and Quaternary sediments. The field and seismic profile data show the presence of growth folds that are active up to present and deform the sea bottom. The Quaternary marine terraces uplift and the high rate of incision of drainage network is probably related with the recent active folding. These structures determine the coastline and its amplitude increase to the continent and produce the mountain front with rectilinear character.
